In Defense of Our Students: The Fight for STEM Equity
Every week, another school, teacher, or district reaches out to us, seeking our programs for their students. They see the gaps, and they know their students deserve better.
And so do we—because we see the impact of these gaps every day.
Last year, more than 90% of the students we served were BIPOC and from low-income households. They attend Title I schools, receive special education services, and rely on programs designed to expand opportunity—the very resources now in jeopardy.
What’s at Stake
In one of our partner districts, nearly 10% of the budget comes from federal funding, supporting low-income students, students with disabilities, and English language learners. These dollars fund Title I, special education, teacher development, and school technology. If they disappear, so do the resources students rely on to succeed.
Without them, students already facing immense challenges will have even fewer options. Many of our students face personal challenges yet still show up to school, to our programs, and to their future.
But how much longer will these opportunities be there for them?
At the same time, programs that expand access and opportunity are being scaled back nationwide. The burden of filling these gaps falls increasingly on organizations like ours. But no matter how policies shift, students still need access to the skills and opportunities that prepare them for the future.
STEM Greenhouse: Meeting the Moment
The calls for help aren’t just coming—they’re growing louder. More schools, educators, and students are all looking for a way forward.
And we refuse to let them go unheard.
We step up.
We take action.
We show up.
STEM education is more than a subject—it’s a future. It leads to high-demand careers, economic mobility, and innovation. Ensuring K-12 STEM access isn’t just about fairness—it’s about preparing students to drive progress, shape industries, and transform communities.
We’ve always worked to ensure that Black and underrepresented students have access to abundant opportunities, resources, and support, and we refuse to stop now.
When students are given access, they thrive.
We believe in a future where educational parity isn’t a privilege—it’s a given.
Now Is the Time to Act
